With my daughter, Lauren Goldhamer (now a psychotherapist in the field of eating disorders)
and my son, David Goldhamer, now Professor in Molecular and Cell Biology at the
University of Connecticut) and David's German Shepherd, Maxine, about to drive cross-country
from Cleveland to Seattle, in my Mustang, without AC. Crossing the desert, Maxine's hair swirled
like tumbleweed inside the car.
